THE REVIEW
Pokémon binders, variants and set completion
Dex is a focused choice for Pokémon set and binder collectors. Its strongest distinction is the emphasis on variants and missing cards; its regional language model deserves attention if you collect the same card in several printed languages.
Games and card-language editions.
Pokémon
Dex supports International, Japanese and Simplified Chinese regions. International groups English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and other international editions rather than separate language attributes. Card notes can record the language of a copy. Korean and Traditional Chinese card regions are not currently supported.
Scanner workflow and variant batches
The official scanner guide describes camera recognition followed by filters for expansion or rarity and a session overview. Sort normal cards, reverse holos and other variants into separate groups before scanning, then assign the appropriate variant in the overview.
The camera scanner requires Dex+ and is documented on iOS and Android. For a whole album, finish one physical section at a time and compare saved quantities with that section before continuing.
Portfolio management built around collecting goals
Dex combines collection totals with folders, wishlists, variants and set progress. Its latest Insights redesign adds progress and value views, while cameo tracking lets collectors find a Pokémon appearing in another card’s artwork.
Define your target before treating a completion figure as the goal. A numbered set, every variant and every appearance of a favorite Pokémon are different projects. Keep duplicate quantities separate from the entries you still want to acquire.
Printed languages: regions come first
Dex’s help center explains that the International region shares database entries across several printed languages. A French copy and an English copy are not distinct language attributes. Notes provide a place to retain those physical-copy details.
Japanese and Simplified Chinese have separate regional catalogues. Korean and Traditional Chinese are outside the published region coverage. Check your imported cards against the regional structure before entering an entire bilingual binder.
Free and paid features
Free accounts can create three folders. The Dex+ guide documents unlimited folders, card notes, the scanner and CSV export. Its platform note places CSV export on iOS.
Checked October 13, 2026, US Apple purchases include monthly offers of $3.99 and $4.99, annual $34.99, a one-year purchase at $44.99 and lifetime $109. Select the offer and period that match your intended use rather than comparing the smallest displayed number.
Export and keeping a portable record
Dex+ documents exports of a whole collection or a folder. For a long-term inventory, open a sample file and inspect the card identifiers, quantities and notes before depending on it as your separate record.
Maintain a dated backup after substantial additions or trades. The iOS export requirement matters if your everyday collection management happens on another platform: choose a workflow in which you can actually retrieve the file when needed.
