The interesting question comes after the camera.
A handful of fresh pulls is an inviting scanning project. A collection you want to maintain for years asks more of an app: can you find the right copy, adjust quantities and keep a backup? Collectr and CardlyMon approach those jobs with different documented tools.
Our starting pick is Collectr for maintaining a varied inventory over time. CardlyMon deserves a closer look if its iOS Multi-Scan feature matches the way you sort cards. Use that feature as a reason to try a small project, then judge the records it leaves behind.
CardlyMon has a documented multiple-card workflow.
CardlyMon’s iOS 1.0.8 release notes introduced Multi-Scan for identifying several cards at once. Its current iOS version remains 1.1.2, dated July 15. Collectr describes matching a card’s set, number and variant before saving quantity and condition.
Try a small group whose contents you already know. After scanning, count the saved entries and inspect each printing. Make sure two copies are represented correctly, and check a foil separately from a normal version. A group photo is useful only if the resulting inventory stays clear.
For a binder, begin with one section rather than the whole album. Confirm what the app saved before moving cards back into their pockets. Keep a simple physical boundary between completed and unfinished cards so an interrupted session does not create duplicates. Set aside any uncertain matches for a separate pass instead of guessing to keep the session moving. Correcting a short exception list is easier than searching the completed inventory for entries you no longer remember.

A portfolio needs a structure you can maintain.
CardlyMon’s Android listing documents an inventory, favorite cards and collection-value tracking. Its website describes binders organized by game, set and condition. Those tools point toward a visual collection that remains useful after the first price lookup.
Collectr documents bulk moves, copies and deletions between portfolios, together with filters for raw cards, graded cards and sealed products. Its free plan includes unlimited portfolios.
Choose whether your groups represent storage locations or collecting goals. A trade binder and a favourite-Pokémon collection can overlap physically; decide how you will keep the owned quantity accurate. When a card leaves in a trade, update its record before adding the replacement. This routine matters more as the collection grows.

The backup question favors Collectr.
Collectr explicitly includes collection export in PRO. The checked CardlyMon store listings and website do not document an inventory-file export. That makes Collectr the clearer starting point when a separate inventory is part of the plan.
Export a small sample before entering hundreds of cards. Open it and inspect the identifiers and quantities you need for your own records. Keep the original file alongside any edited version, with a date in the filename.
If you already maintain a spreadsheet, keep it until you have checked the new records against it. Moving into an app should make the collection easier to understand, not leave you reconstructing purchase records or quantities later.

Game names do not settle printed-language coverage.
CardlyMon’s website names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards. Collectr’s scanner page names those five TCGs plus Flesh and Blood and Digimon; its PRO page says sports cards are coming soon.
Collectr documents EN, JP and CN portfolio filters. CardlyMon’s checked sources do not enumerate exact printed-card languages. Japanese, Korean and Chinese interface translations do not establish recognition of every corresponding edition.
For an imported card, use the set code and collector number to confirm the saved record. Matching artwork is not enough when the same illustration appears in several releases. Apply that check to each language represented in your sample before cataloguing the remaining cards.

Compare the cost of finishing your project.
Prices checked October 10, 2026 show Collectr web PRO at US$7.99 monthly or US$59.99 annually. CardlyMon’s US iOS listing offers weekly US$7.99, monthly US$19.99 and yearly US$49.99 options, plus a separately labelled Weekly Trial purchase at US$9.99.
Both are free to download. Collectr advertises unlimited scanning in PRO; CardlyMon does not publish an ongoing free scan allowance in the checked materials. Read the selected purchase screen before planning a large session.
CardlyMon also has an official Android listing from Applus, updated August 22. Collectr remains on iOS 2.5.10, whose notes include saved trades and camera-flash fixes. For either app, finish the sample collection first. Choose the tool whose saved records and ongoing cost suit the work you will actually repeat.
