What do you want to remember about a card?

A price is useful, but it rarely tells the whole story. Perhaps a card came from your first tournament, belongs in a deck you are rebuilding, or is waiting for a friend to collect it. When comparing Foloy vs Collectr, start with what you need the saved record to tell you next month.

Our recommendation is Collectr when a portable, reorganizable inventory is the priority. Foloy deserves a look when personal context and a buying shortlist matter more. The deciding task is what you do after identifying a card: maintain a stock list, or keep a collecting notebook.

Foloy gives personal context a place to live.

Foloy’s website documents photos, condition, tags and notes in collection records. It also describes a wishlist, price-movement notifications and links to eBay listings. That combination suits a collector who regularly spots cards they want but does not buy immediately.

Use a note to record why a particular copy matters, or where it is stored. Keep tags consistent: one short label for cards promised to a friend is more useful than several near-identical versions. For a wanted card, decide the edition and acceptable condition before browsing listings.

A practical first project is a small trade binder. Write only the information you would otherwise have to remember or search for in messages. If updating those details feels natural, the record has a purpose beyond watching a total change.

Foloy notes, wishlists and collection tools

Collectr has the clearer documented backup route.

Collectr documents bulk moves, copies and deletions between portfolios, alongside filters for product type and owned quantity. Unlimited portfolios are included in its free plan; collection export belongs to PRO. Those are useful building blocks for an inventory spread across binders and boxes.

Before transferring a large collection, export a small sample and inspect the fields. Check whether the file preserves the distinctions you care about, especially condition, edition and quantity. Name backups by date so that an older copy cannot quietly replace a newer one.

Foloy documents cloud synchronization for registered users, but the checked official pages do not describe an inventory-file export. For someone who maintains a separate spreadsheet, that is a workflow to resolve before entering the whole collection.

A full binder needs repeatable entries.

Collectr describes camera matching followed by setting quantity and condition. Foloy describes identifying a card’s game, set, rarity and edition from a photo. In either app, compare the saved printing with the physical card before putting it away.

Work through one binder section at a time. Keep normal and reverse-holo copies separate, count duplicate quantities, and check the section total before continuing. If a card is already recorded, updating that entry is usually the job you want to complete.

For a full portfolio, include a representative mix in the first session: an ordinary card, a foil, a duplicate and an imported edition. The important question is whether you can keep each record understandable while repeating the process hundreds of times.

Check games separately from card languages.

Foloy’s Android description names Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, One Piece and Dragon Ball; its website additionally lists Lorcana. Collectr’s scanner page names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and Digimon.

For printed editions, Collectr shows EN, JP and CN filters. Foloy lists Japanese and Chinese interface localizations, but the checked sources do not enumerate card-recognition languages. A localized menu does not establish coverage of a Japanese set. Use the printed collector number and set code to confirm the exact entry.

Read the price alongside the billing period.

On October 3, 2026, Collectr’s web PRO plan is US$7.99 monthly or US$59.99 annually, including unlimited scanning and export. Foloy’s US iOS listing shows US$39.99 purchases labelled as trial or first-month offers. Those names do not establish the renewal interval; the purchase screen supplies that detail.

Foloy’s public pages do not specify an ongoing free scan allowance. If the immediate job is a large binder, establish how many scans are included and when any limit resets before paying. Compare the cost of completing that job, then decide whether the features justify keeping a subscription afterward.

Recent updates and our recommendation.

Foloy iOS 1.8.0, dated September 23, lists usability improvements and minor fixes. Collectr’s current 2.5.10 notes mention saved trades, grade comparisons and camera-flash fixes. Neither release note provides a measured scanner comparison.

Choose Collectr for a collection you expect to move between portfolios and back up outside the app. Try Foloy if notes and a focused wishlist would help you remember what to buy, keep or trade. Finish a small project first, then choose the record you want to maintain.
