Do you want to know what you own, or help someone buy it?
A personal inventory and a shop can start with the same photograph. They become different jobs the moment another collector asks about condition, bundles or shipping. For collectors weighing CollX vs Collectr, this is the useful distinction: we would start with Collectr for a TCG collection you maintain, and CollX for sports-heavy stock you want other collectors to browse.
Before installing either, decide what success looks like this month. Finishing an accurate binder inventory is one goal. Turning fifty duplicates into a manageable set of listings is another. Choose around that task instead of the size of the number on a portfolio dashboard.
CollX makes your inventory available to buyers.
CollX’s marketplace workflow is built around cards already in your collection. Set an asking price, configure shipping and offers, then respond to buyers. Its Deals feature lets someone combine multiple items and negotiate the bundle. Seller settings also include minimum orders and bulk discounts.
The marketplace FAQ, updated September 24, states a standard 10% seller commission excluding shipping and taxes, with lower rates available for qualifying Pro and Gold orders. It also lists a US$2 withdrawal fee, waived for Gold. Account for those costs before choosing an asking price.
For inexpensive cards, decide how many you are prepared to package together. Keep listed items in a numbered box or tray and photograph condition clearly. A buyer who adds several cards to one order should not create a hunt across your entire collection.
A scan is a match to check, not a condition grade.
CollX’s FAQ describes showing candidate variants, including parallels and reprints, so you can choose the correct match. If recognition fails, search the database and connect the item manually. It also states that condition is entered by the user rather than assessed automatically.
Collectr’s documented camera flow identifies set and variant, then saves quantity and condition to a portfolio. With either app, compare the card number and finish before accepting a result. A base card and its parallel can share most of their artwork.
Start a larger batch with a small representative sample. Include a duplicate, a foil and a card with an awkwardly similar printing. Count the saved copies before carrying on. This helps you establish a repeatable routine without turning a correction into a box-sized job.

Sports coverage and foreign-language editions change the shortlist.
CollX names major sports such as baseball, basketball, football, hockey and soccer, plus Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Flesh and Blood, One Piece and Lorcana. Collectr’s scanner page names those six TCGs alongside Digimon. For a collection crossing sports and TCGs, CollX deserves an early look.
For printed card languages, Collectr documents EN, JP and CN catalogue filters. That confirms edition filtering, not automatic recognition of every Japanese or Chinese set. CollX’s checked official pages do not enumerate card-edition languages. Its English interface listing is a separate detail.
Use the exact set and collector number to check imported cards. Save editions separately even when their artwork matches, and inspect the pricing attached to each record.

Collection space, Scan+ and a subscription are separate decisions.
Prices checked September 30, 2026: Collectr PRO is US$7.99 monthly or US$59.99 annually. CollX Pro is US$9.99 monthly or US$99.99 annually. Collectr includes unlimited scanning in PRO. CollX Pro includes 500 monthly Scan+ credits for enhanced identification; unlimited collection capacity is a different benefit.
CollX Gold is US$24.99 per month or US$249.99 per year on its website. It adds unlimited Scan+, seller tools and fee benefits. Choose it around actual selling activity or enhanced-scan usage rather than assuming the most expensive plan is needed to catalogue cards.
For a personal TCG archive, compare the recurring cost with the tasks you will use every week. For sale stock, work out the expected number of orders and the time spent handling them before adding another monthly expense.

A full portfolio needs organization and an exit route.
Collectr combines raw cards, slabs and sealed products, with bulk moves and copies between portfolios. That suits separating a personal collection from trade stock. CollX offers grid, list and set views, useful when switching between browsing and filling gaps.
Both reserve collection export for Pro. CollX specifically describes CSV output with card details, pricing and image URLs. Before entering thousands of items, export a small sample and open it in your spreadsheet app.
Check that you can distinguish repeated copies, variants and the storage information you need. Keep a dated backup after a major sorting session. A collection becomes easier to manage when its records remain useful outside the screen where you first scanned it.

The latest update points toward discovery and deals.
CollX’s current iOS listing shows 4.1.0: searchable Stacks, sharing from screenshots, saved-card filtering by seller and clearer explanations when scanned items fail to add. Those changes matter when browsing another collector’s stock or building a bundle.
Collectr’s checked iOS release is 2.5.8, with notes covering saved trades, sharing links, grade comparisons and camera-flash fixes. For a returning user, try the part of the workflow you previously found awkward before moving your entire inventory.
