Start with the collection you actually want to finish.

A Pokémon set can become a project of its own: a few missing cards, several unwanted duplicates and one expensive illustration rare you keep checking. An app that helps with that project has a different job from an app holding every card and sealed box you own.

Our starting recommendation is Pokechart for collectors drawn to a focused Pokémon catalogue and price-chart workflow. Collectr is the stronger starting point when the collection spans games and product types. In either case, choose around the records you will revisit, rather than the size of the first price total.

Pokechart keeps the set close to the price check.

Pokechart’s official app page centers on Pokémon scanning, market checks, collection totals and browsing expansions. It also links the mobile workflow to continued browsing of the same card database on the web.

For a set project, decide what completion means before adding cards. You might want one copy of each numbered card, every reverse holo, or a particular group of illustrations. Keep that target consistent when deciding whether a new purchase fills a gap.

Use a quiet browsing session to narrow the next purchase to a precise printing. When you later inspect a physical copy, you should already know the collector number, finish and condition you are looking for. That turns a price check into a useful part of the collection routine.

Collectr makes more sense when the project has several shelves.

Collectr documents raw cards, graded cards and sealed-product filters, plus bulk copying, moving and deletion between portfolios. Its free plan offers unlimited portfolios. Those features suit a collection that includes a Pokémon binder, Magic cards and unopened boxes.

Choose a simple naming system for portfolios. If one is based on storage and another on a theme, decide how you will avoid counting the same physical card twice. Move its record when the card changes homes, and remove sold or traded copies before the next round of additions.

Scanning still needs a clear finish line.

Pokechart describes OCR identification and search by name, number, set or series. Collectr’s workflow identifies a printing and lets you set quantity and condition when adding it. Search can be the useful route when you already know the card number.

Try one small binder section containing an ordinary card, a foil and a duplicate. Check the edition and quantity after saving each entry. Keep completed cards separate until the section count agrees with what is physically in front of you.

For a full portfolio, repeat that routine in manageable sessions. The useful question is whether you can resume tomorrow without rescanning yesterday’s cards. A clearly maintained list matters more than an impressive-looking total built from uncertain entries.

Charts and exports should answer different questions.

Pokechart advertises custom lists, collection totals, historical charts and multiple currencies. Its premium features include collection export; the iOS release history explicitly names CSV export and backup/restore. Collectr also documents export in PRO.

Use a chart to revisit the same edition over time, keeping its currency and condition consistent. Use an export to check the inventory itself. Open a sample file and look for the card identifiers, quantities and other fields needed by your separate records.

Keep a dated original before editing the spreadsheet. If you combine a wishlist with owned cards for your own planning, add a clear status column. A card you hope to buy should not silently increase the value of the cards you already have.

Games and printed-language editions.

Pokechart’s product page explicitly targets Pokémon. Collectr’s scanner page names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and Digimon.

Collectr shows EN, JP and CN portfolio filters. Pokechart’s checked official sources do not enumerate exact card-recognition languages. Its interface translations should not be read as a list of supported printed editions. For imported Pokémon cards, confirm the set code and collector number against the saved entry before cataloguing the rest.

Compare the subscription with the project.

Prices checked October 8, 2026 show Collectr web PRO at US$7.99 monthly or US$59.99 annually. Pokechart’s US App Store lists Weekly at US$9.99 and Annual Pro at US$29.99. Both advertise unlimited scanning with paid access; Pokechart’s public listing does not specify an ongoing free scan allowance.

Pokechart’s current iOS version is 1.0.27, dated August 10, with scanning and stability notes. Collectr is on 2.5.10, whose notes include saved trades and camera-flash fixes.

For a focused Pokémon set, compare the browsing and chart experience first. For a collection across games, begin with the portfolio structure. Before paying for either, finish a small section and inspect the backup you would keep.
