The card in front of you, or the collection behind it?
A scanner often comes out at two different moments: when an unfamiliar card needs attention, and when an established collection needs updating. Those jobs overlap, but the best workflow for one is not automatically the best for the other.
For Collectr versus FoilSnap, we would start with Collectr for ongoing portfolio management. FoilSnap is worth considering when your first priority is examining a card from a photograph and saving the result. Choose around the decision you want to make after identification, rather than the first price that appears.
Inspect before you accept the record.
FoilSnap’s Android listing describes photo identification, condition recommendations and saved scans. Its iOS description also advertises foil detection and a magnifying inspection tool. Collectr describes matching a set, number and variant before adding quantity and condition.
A useful first session includes a worn copy, a shiny printing and a reprint. Inspect the set symbol and collector number yourself, then compare the saved match. Turn the physical card under good light when checking its surface. A condition label is useful only when it helps you record what is actually there.
For a potential trade, keep identification and condition as two separate questions. Matching the right product is the first step; deciding whether you want that particular copy is another.

A whole box needs a repeatable routine.
For full-collection scanning, set up a small completed pile and keep it separate from cards still waiting. Confirm quantities before starting the next group. This makes an accidental repeat easier to catch than a large unexplained difference at the end.
Collectr supports bulk copying, moving and deletion between portfolios, alongside raw, graded and sealed-product filters. FoilSnap describes saving scans and monitoring the collection’s total value.
We would use the organization tools as a deciding factor before committing a large collection. Can you find the cards you plan to trade? Can you remove a sold copy without losing track of the one you kept? Those everyday actions matter more than an impressive opening total.

Match your games and imported editions.
Collectr’s scanner page names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and Digimon. FoilSnap’s iOS listing explicitly names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh! and MetaZoo.
Collectr shows EN, JP and CN portfolio filters. FoilSnap’s checked descriptions do not enumerate supported printed-card languages. For Japanese, Chinese or other imported editions, start with the exact physical printings you own and verify their saved set numbers and language records.
An interface translated into your language answers a different question from whether a particular regional card edition is recognized. Keep that distinction in mind when choosing one app for a mixed-language binder.

The collection should still be useful in a file.
FoilSnap’s iOS history documents Favorites export, and a developer reply confirms CSV delivery by email. Collectr includes collection export in PRO.
Before a large migration, open a small export and compare it against the physical cards. Check identifiers, quantities and condition-related information. Save an untouched original so you can trace any changes made for a spreadsheet or another collecting tool.
Treat the export as part of the initial setup. Discovering the information you need is missing after a weekend of cataloguing creates avoidable work. A readable file also makes it easier to reconcile purchases and trades away from the phone.

What changed this week?
Collectr’s October 14 iOS release, version 2.5.12, adds custom price targets with notifications, saved trade history, sharing links for Showcases and Sets, a quick-add menu and a Compare Grades view. FoilSnap 2.1.0 arrived October 15 with interface and usability improvements in its release notes.
The practical attraction of saved trades is the ability to revisit a decision after the exchange. Keep your own purchase and trade records consistent, and use alerts for items you actually want to monitor. A notification can prompt a closer look without becoming a reason to change your collecting plan.

Compare the subscription you will actually buy.
Checked October 16, Collectr web PRO is US$7.99 monthly or $59.99 yearly, including unlimited scanning. FoilSnap lists US iOS purchases at $3.99, $19.99, $29.99 and $39.99 without identifying their billing periods on the public listing. Its Premium description includes unlimited identifications.
Read the selected offer before subscribing, especially its renewal period. Our starting choice remains Collectr for managing the wider collection; try FoilSnap’s inspection workflow first if that is the task bringing you to a scanner.
