The finish belongs in the record.

Two cards can share a name and illustration while belonging to different collecting targets. If the finish disappears from the saved record, a price check may look convincing while referring to the wrong product. That is the useful starting point for Collectr versus FoilBoost.

We would start with Collectr for maintaining a broad portfolio, and consider FoilBoost when variant inspection and collection reports are the immediate priorities. The important question is whether the details you checked at the camera remain clear when you return to the inventory.

Check the match before checking the value.

FoilBoost advertises foil and variant recognition with visual condition insights. Collectr describes identifying set, number and variant, then adding quantity and condition.

Start with a small group containing ordinary and foil copies, a reprint and a card with a similar illustration. Compare the saved set number and finish against each physical card. Tilt the card under steady light when checking the actual finish rather than trying to infer it from the app’s thumbnail.

Keep condition separate from printing. A correct variant match does not tell you how the surface has been handled. Record the copy you own, including any visible wear, before comparing it with other examples.

A whole collection needs a repeatable correction step.

For a large scanning session, establish where unfinished, checked and completed cards will sit. A small physical separation makes it easier to spot accidental repeats than trying to reconcile a long list afterwards.

Collectr supports bulk copying, moving and deletion between portfolios. FoilBoost’s website describes organizing a digital binder by set, rarity or value, with device sync.

Try correcting one record before entering the rest of a box. Confirm that the change is visible wherever you later browse the card. Then check a duplicate: two physical copies should remain distinguishable from two different printings.

This is where portfolio management becomes more useful than a scan counter. A good routine should let you answer what you own, which copy you mean and where it belongs without repeating the identification work.

Choose around named games and editions.

Collectr names Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and Digimon on its scanner page. FoilBoost explicitly names Pokémon, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh! in its iOS description.

Collectr displays EN, JP and CN portfolio filters. FoilBoost’s checked official descriptions do not enumerate exact printed-card language editions. For an imported card, check its regional set and collector number before treating the saved match as complete.

Include foreign-language copies in the first sample if they are a meaningful part of the collection. Translating an interface is a different task from recognizing the printing on the table. Shared artwork makes this distinction especially easy to overlook.

A report and a working spreadsheet serve different jobs.

FoilBoost’s website lists CSV and PDF collection export in Pro. Collectr includes collection export in PRO.

Think about the destination before exporting. A PDF can be useful for reading or sharing a snapshot; a structured spreadsheet is more useful when you need to sort, reconcile or add your own purchase records. Inspect an example rather than assuming both formats preserve the same fields.

Check whether the finish, quantity and set identifier remain understandable outside the app. Keep an untouched original before editing columns. A backup becomes much less helpful if several printings collapse into the same card name.

For a collection you intend to reorganize later, make this check early. It is easier to establish a consistent record format with twenty cards than after a weekend spent entering every binder.

Keep valuation tied to ownership.

Collectr’s portfolio filters distinguish raw cards, graded cards and sealed products. FoilBoost describes monitoring inventory and price changes.

When a card leaves in a trade, update the inventory as carefully as you would after a purchase. Keep wanted cards separate from owned copies, and make sure a reorganized collection has not accidentally counted the same item twice.

Our preference for Collectr in a wider portfolio follows from its documented organization tools. For a narrower project, FoilBoost’s report options are worth inspecting alongside the saved variant details. Neither choice removes the need for a consistent ownership record.

Compare the actual subscription and release.

Checked October 19, Collectr web PRO is US$7.99 monthly or $59.99 yearly. FoilBoost’s US iOS listing shows a $39.99 yearly Premium subscription. Its current Apple lookup reports version 1.0.4, released September 25, with visual changes and minor fixes.

Choose around the work you will repeat: maintaining a broad collection, checking particular printings, or producing useful reports. Start with a representative sample and confirm that the information survives each step from scan to saved record to export.
